BRONZE FIREBOAT WATER CANNON

Looking for something different or unusual for your collection? Here’s something you rarely see anymore – an old bronze water cannon, once found aboard harbor fire boats and coast guard vessels.

It is marked “M. Hart, NYC, Patented Jan. 1902.”

I have added a base of wood that I painted black, to add to its ‘industrial’ look. The midsection still has its iron (or steel) base flange which I have bolted to the wood base with eight polished bronze bolts. With base, it weighs about 75 pounds.

The cannon itself is bronze which you can polish to a high luster. Or you may want to let it mellow to a natural darker finish.

Note the old photograph showing the placement of the water cannon aboard a vessel.

TIN LITHO OF OCEAN LINER S.S. IMPERATOR

This glorious litho of the S.S. Imperator, a presentation piece, was used to advertise the remarkable ship; customers could see it hanging on the walls of steamship offices and ticket agencies.

This rare litho on tin plate was produced for the Hamburg-America Steamship Line, before the ship’s launching in 1913. (The original painting was made in 1911.)

The shipbuilders at Vulcan Shipyards of Hamburg were justly proud of the S.S. Imperator. At 51,680 tons it was the largest ship in the world. She made several transatlantic passages between Hamburg and New York until the start of war in 1914. At that point she was laid up. After the war she was used as an American troop and passenger transport until being turned over to British control and the Cunard Line. She was renamed RMS Berengaria. In 1938, she was retired and scrapped.

Most ship prints of the day were made of paper and cardboard, and in a smaller size. This large, beautiful tin is rare. The pictures is in its original frame with plaque. It is entirely original with no restoration. Including the frame, the unit measures 36 by 45 inches (92 by 114 cm). The image size is 29 by 39 inches (75 by 100 cm). The colors remain bright and true.
