It measures about 15 inches long and is 3.5 inches at its widest part.
This original, musket-size powder horn was fashioned from a blonde cow or steer horn. It has mellowed to a dark, smoky hue. It is engraved with stars, a Masonic compass & square, a rabbit, and some linear decorations. The name H.W. Britton and the date, 1878, is also cut into the horn. The date is unusual as the style of the powder horn is more typical of the period 100 years earlier. I suspect this is an old horn marked by a subsequent owner. It measures about 15 inches long and is 3.5 inches at its widest part.
