It is a great old C.Y. Tung company house flag in wool bunting, about nine feet long.
The shipping magnet C.Y. Tung was known as the "Niarcos of the East." He assembled a fleet of 150 large ships and organized the Overseas Orient Line. One of his acquisitions was the old R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth which he renamed the S.S. Seawise University. The idea-- to create a floating university for 800 or so sea-going students. He paid three million dollars for the ship, insured it for a whole lot more. One day several mystery fires broke out simultaneously and the ship burned and rolled over in Victoria Harbor. Draw your own conclusions.
When I bought this flag I was told that it came off the "Seawise U" in 1972. It's a good story and makes sense but I can't verify it. Anyway, it is a great old C.Y. Tung company house flag in wool bunting, about nine feet long. It has the usual small moth holes but has good color and is sound for display.
