China Sea Marine Trading Company
ABOUT US
The front of the old shop became a movie backdrop, and was photographed for the cover of the New York City telephone directory. It served as the cover of a Chesapeake Bay map. A TV pilot was filmed there. One of its shop windows won a prize in a local newspaper’s “best of” contest.
Over the years, museums, film and TV producers, interior designers, photographers and advertisers have benefitted from Steve Bunker’s knowledge of maritime, Age of Piracy, and Civil War history. His eye for design and artistic skills have lent an authentic air to historical and maritime-themed productions.
In 1999, Bunker and his partner Sharon Bondroff moved China Sea to Portland, Maine’s Old Port. Offshore Magazine, Lucky Magazine, and Coastal Living wrote about us, as did newspapers and other publications. After nearly a decade of running the Portland shop a very hectic seven days a week, they decided to “slow down a bit” focusing on our online presence and taking space at multi-dealer antique shops on the Maine’s beautiful coastline.
In the spring of 2021, Steve Bunker was featured in a video by renowned photographer/videographer Bob Krist for Soundings Magazine.
An article about him by Executive Editor Pim Van Hemmen also appeared in Soundings.
